Active Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that affects over 80% of adults. It can appear on the face, chest and neck in a persons teens. If it remains untreated it can cause permanent damaged skin commonly known as acne scarring. An outbreak of acne can re-occur every 4 to 5 years and around 30% of suffers continue with acne issues into their adulthood.

NLite-V (FDA approved) is one of the most recognised treatments for Active Acne.

What is Nlite-V? Light energy initiates the release of free radical oxygen which kills and reduces the p.acne bacteria that causes spots. At the same time it also reduces any associated scarring by building new collagen from beneath.

How many NLite-V treatments will I need?

Most patients are treated within a 30 minute session. The number of treatments required will vary depending on the individual’s skin condition. Some patients may require only one treatment but most are recommended to undergo a course of treatments to ensure a sustainable improvement in their skin which will occur within 3-6 months. Many patients then chose to have a maintenance programme every 6 months or annually.

Will it hurt?

The treatment is almost pain-free, with patients only being aware of a prickly sensation on their skin at the time the laser is applied. The sensation has been described as similar to pulses of warm air applied to the local area of the skin.

Acne can be effectively treated with Intense Pulsed Light alone or in combination with other clinical treatments. Intense Pulsed Light treatments greatly reduce the number and severity of active lesions, lessening the inflammation and frequency of break-outs.

How does Intense Pulsed Light and Lasers work?

The light emitted from the Intense Pulsed Light system directly targets overactive sebaceous glands, greatly reducing the total number and severity of active lesions, and lessening the inflammation and occurrence of break-outs. The light stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture, and can also reduce the appearance of red or brown areas of skin that are often associated with acne breakouts.

How is the treatment carried out?

A layer of chilled gel is applied to the skin to help guide the light. The light guide is placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is passed over the skin several times before moving onto the neighbouring area, and the process is repeated until the whole area is treated. Each pulse of light treats a large area of skin and so the duration of the treatment is very short. The gel is removed and the skin is moisturised. During treatment protective eye wear will be provided.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Almost everybody can be treated, apart from very dark skinned or tanned individuals. If you are pregnant or taking Roaccutane (an acne medication) it is best not to undergo laser or Intense Pulsed Light treatment.

How does the treatment feel?

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but no anaesthesia is required. Many people describe the sensation as similar to the flick of an elastic band.

What should I expect after treatment?

Immediately after treatment the skin may appear red and a warm tingling sensation may be felt. Typically the skin is cooled to ease any discomfort and a calming gel is applied.

Are there any side effects?

The treated area can become quite red immediately after treatment but this usually disappears within a couple of hours. Most people experience no other side effects but very rarely a small blister could form or the skin may become temporarily lighter or darker.

How long does treatment take?

A typical treatment session is approximately 30 minutes. Intense Pulsed Light treatment may be combined with glycolic acid facial peels or microdermabrasion for maximum results.

How many treatments are necessary?

The number of treatments necessary varies from person to person, but typically 6 Intense Pulsed Light and 6 exfoliating treatments will result in a significant improvement. Intense Pulsed Light treatments should take place fortnightly with a glycolic acid peel or microdermabrasion treatment in between Intense Pusled Light sessions.

Rosacea is a potentially progressive neurovascular disorder affecting the face, generally cheeks, nose and forehead.

Symptoms can include facial redness, inflammation, burning or warm tingly sensations. Some patients suffer from inflamed pustules or spots.

Rosacea is primarily a disorder of the facial blood vessels that undergo changes and become hyper responsive to internal and external stimuli such as sun exposure, heat, rich food, caffeine and alcohol.

How can it be treated?

Sufferers have traditionally been prescribed oral and topical antibiotics to reduce the effects of Rosacea. However, Intense Pulse Light (IPL) has also been clinically proven to successfully reduce the effects.

Dr Patrick Bitter pioneered the use of IPL to treat Rosacea in America and it is now widely regarded as one of the best treatments for Rosacea suffers. It works by using light energy to target capillaries in the skin. The light is absorbed by the skin, which damages problem capillaries and allows them to be absorbed by the body.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required depends on the severity of the Rosacea. However, because of the high specification of our Vasculight IPL laser, you’ll need fewer treatments with us than a clinic performing a similar procedure with an inferior laser.

Will it hurt?

The treatment doesn’t hurt although some patients notice a sensation similar to the snap of an elastic band or a sting with each laser flash. The treatment won’t disrupt your daily routine and as no local anaesthesia is required, you should be able to go back to work straight away.

Depending on the severity of your Rosacea, you should notice an improvement a few days after your initial treatment.
